Off the matte
WITH DR. SHARA POSNER
I met Shara on Instagram— I think. It was some social media app for sure. Either way, this is loosely how the story goes…I saw her online and messaged her, after a few exchanges, we decided to meet for coffee. She showed up in lux athleisure, a beautiful stack of bracelets and a Chanel she said she had just gotten. I was like “Oh, this is my kinda girl”! We caught up like old friends and immediately became friends. Shara is a wife, mother, medical provider, friend and now a major Tik Toker :) She’s well respected in her community and champions small businesses in and around Alexandria, VA. She’s a girl’s girl and just fabulous.

TB: One of your Tik-Toks recently reached over 1M views! What was video about?
SP: I wanted to answer the question I get asked all the time in my office, why does my hip pop when I do x? Most of the time hip pops, clicks and cracks with leg lifts or hip circles are a result of tight muscles and instability of the pelvis. The video was instructions on two stretches to fix the popping.
TB: There aren’t very many cool chiropractors in practice. How did you come to be and what’s the vibe of your practice?
SP: When I was in college and worked for a chiropractor. I was inspired by the idea you could help people without prescribing medication. My vibe has always been to help people feel their best selves therefore, the practice has incorporated a community of healers (acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage) to help our patients. Those who may not be interested in one aspect of the office will still feel welcomed to try other avenues for healing. So the overall vibe is inclusiveness.
TB: Do people really freak out at the neck crack?
SP: Some people do! There are alternative ways to work on people’s neck that do not require neck cracking that can also alleviate pain.
TB: When your kids and husband are gone, do you have any secret mom/wife behavior?
SP: Usually it’s a girl friend night out enjoying great wine, food, and conversation.
TB: If you were an overpriced craft cocktail, what would you be?
SP: Bookers old fashioned. Classic with a high end twist.
TB: Most unnecessary beauty/wellness spend that makes you feel the most glamorous?
SP: Monthly facial. To me it’s not the actual facial itself but the nonnegotiable habit that makes me feel glamorous.
TB: How many days a week do you prioritize fitness?
SP: 5 days with 2 recovery days.
TB: Favorite book or podcast?
SP: These days I love The Genius life and the Model Health show Podcasts.
